RP Singh pointed out that the inconsistency in Venkatesh Iyer‘s performances during IPL 2025 might stem from the pressure of living up to his price tag of INR 23.75 crore. The left-handed batter has scored 135 runs in 8 games at an average of 22.5 and a strike rate of 139.17.
During KKR’s recent match against Gujarat Titans, fans expressed the opinion that Venkatesh didn’t give his best during the run chase. Ahead of the Kolkata Knight Riders vs. Punjab Kings IPL 2025 match, Singh mentioned that KKR might have miscalculated their bid for Venkatesh.
The former fast bowler doesn’t think it’s a good idea to drop the MP batter right now because there is a chance of him returning to form.
“When a player is bought for a hefty price, he is considered a key player or a captaincy materiel. He hasn’t been able to fulfill expectations. I believe KKR might have misjudged the situation during the auction,” RP Singh said.
“You let go of your best captain, and now he’s performing well leading another team. I don’t think KKR should drop Venkatesh Iyer. He has already played a decent number of matches. Dropping him isn’t really a solution,” Singh added.
“His price tag is weighing on his mind. Perhaps he’s thinking of leading KKR to their fourth IPL title,” he concluded.
