No place for Andre Russell, Jason Holder in the West Indies T20 squad for the South Africa series
All-rounders Andre Russell and Jason Holder were not included in the West Indies squad for the T20I series against South Africa. Rovman Powell was retained as captain, with Roston Chase as his deputy. West Indies and South Africa will clash in a three-match series starting from August 24.
Russell requested leave to recover from fatigue, and the West Indies Cricket Board accepted his appeal. Holder was rested after playing five Test matches against England and South Africa. Both will work with the West Indies Cricket medical staff to be match-fit as soon as possible.
“Andre Russell wanted a leave to recover. Jason Holder played five Tests, and he, too, needs rest. The two will work with the medical staff of the board,” Director of Cricket Miles Bascombe said.
Alick Athanaze and Matthew Forde have been included in the squad. All the games will be played at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Trinidad.
West Indies have won four out of their five T20I series.
West Indies T20I squad: Rovman Powell (c), Roston Chase (vc), Alick Athanaze, Johnson Charles, Matthew Forde, Shimron Hetmyer, Fabian Allen, Shai Hope, Akeal Hosein, Shamar Joseph, Obed McCoy, Gudakesh Motie, Nicholas Pooran, Sherfane Rutherford, and Romario Shepherd.
