Bangladesh pacer Mustafizur Rahman, who is playing for Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League 2024, wore a slightly different jersey from that of other players in the season’s opening game against Royal Challengers Bengaluru in Chennai.
He was bought by the five-time champions for INR 2 crore in the auction. He was named the Player of the Match for taking 4 wickets in his debut game against the Faf du Plessis-led franchise on March 22 at the MA Chidambaram stadium.
During the contest, Mustafizur’s jersey didn’t have a particular logo, which was there on the jerseys of the other players. The logo was of SJ Alcohol Brands, a sponsor of the defending champions.
According to reports, Rahman refused to sport the logo due to his religious beliefs. Earlier, Hashim Amla, Moeen Ali, Rashid Khan and Imran Tahir have worn jerseys without the logos of liquor brands.
After restricting Royal Challengers Bengaluru to 173/6, the Men in Yellow reached the target with six wickets and eight balls to spare.
CSK will next take on Gujarat Titans in their second game of the 17th season on Tuesday, March 26, at the iconic MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Chennai defeated Gujarat Titans in the final of the 16th edition at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
Shubman Gill-led Titans won their first game against Mumbai Indians by 6 runs.
