Former Chennai Super Kings captain MS Dhoni revealed that he is thinking about taking retirement from the Indian Premier League. He explained that his decision will take the franchise’s benefit into account. Dhoni will also consider the retention rules before bidding adieu to the best T20 league in the world. The legendary cricketer has led CSK to five IPL titles.
Dhoni’s retirement has been discussed by former players and fans in the last couple of years. He left the CSK captaincy before the start of IPL 2024 and handed the captain’s armband to Ruturaj Gaikwad. However, MSD is yet to come up with firm details about his last match for one of the most successful teams in the competition.
“There’s a lot of time left for the IPL teams and management to decide on the retention rules. I will go through new regulations once they are decided and I will then take a call. At the end of the day, I will have to keep CSK’s benefit in mind. This is my ultimate goal,” Dhoni said.
Dhoni is battling injuries since the last two seasons and hasn’t been able to bat freely. He batted for a few balls in the previous editions, which impacted Chennai’s performance.
Under Ruturaj’s captaincy, CSK failed to qualify for the play-offs. There were numerous times where Dhoni gave his suggestions to Ruturaj in the middle of games.
