Some claim Pedn Vounder Beach in the Cornish village of St Levan to be among the best of Cornwall’s numerous stunning beaches. This beautiful bay is located not far from Land’s End and is famed for its crystal-clear water and almost-white sand. At low tide, you can stroll to Pedn Vounder from the nearby Porthcurno beach; however, if you choose this route, be sure to return before the tide comes in, or you’ll be forced to use the cliff path, which is not for the faint-hearted.

In recent years, this beach has appeared on the BBC adaptation of Poldark as the fictional Nampara Cove. When not appearing on our TV screens, Pedn Vounder is a perfect choice for those looking for a secluded stretch of seaside—although be warned, Cornwall Beaches notes that it can be a popular choice for naturists.

The unique name of Pedn Vounder comes from the old Cornish language, with pedn meaning ‘end’, and vounder meaning ‘of the lane.”

Visitors who have enjoyed trips to Pedn Vounder have left rave reviews on TripAdvisor, with one writing: “This beach cove really is gorgeous, the water is crystal clear and a stunning turquoise colour, you wouldn’t believe it’s in the UK!

“Only about a mile from the nearest parking lot, but it definitely isn’t a trip for the faint-hearted. It is a very steep hike/climb down to get onto the beach, virtually rock climbing. Make sure you take all the essentials too, as there is nothing around once you get there.”

While a second said: “The most gorgeous beach I have ever visited! So quiet despite going in July on a sunny day. We checked tide times and wore appropriate clothing before hand which is a definite must if wanting to visit this beach.

“Access would be impossible if not in correct footwear or not physically fit. About a mile from car park down steep cliff. Had a lovely day here enjoying the sun. Dog friendly too which was lovely.”

And a third wrote: “Anyone saying this place is anything other than divine is not telling the truth. It IS tricky to walk down to, and you do need to be very careful. Lots of nudists (July) so not for the anyone prudish. Possibly best bathing beach ……. in the world??”
