Morne Morkel is likely to join the Indian team as their bowling coach for the Test series against Bangladesh, according to Cricbuzz. Gautam Gambhir, the newly appointed head coach, has worked with Morkel during his stint with Lucknow Super Giants (LSG).
Morkel was one of the best pacers during his playing days and took 544 international wickets across formats. He has worked with Pakistan in the past.
The right-hand speedster is expected to come in handy for the India bowlers during the five-match Test series in Australia. With the Indian team yet to win a Test series in South Africa, the 39-year-old could help the Rohit Sharma-led unit in achieving success.
India are currently playing in the three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka. The visitors have won two games in a row under Suryakumar Yadav’s captaincy. The third and final game will be played on July 30. The three-match ODI series will start on August 2 in Colombo.
Meanwhile, India’s home season will start with a two-Test series against Bangladesh on September 19, followed by three red-ball matches against New Zealand in October. The five Tests in Australia will begin in Perth on November 22.
India have won the last two Test series Down Under.
