Former spinner Monty Panesar has been surprised by India’s decision to bench Arshdeep Singh for the first three Tests against England. The left-arm seamer was called up to the Test side for the first time, but the team management has preferred Prasidh Krishna and Akash Deep over the young speedster.
India are 1-2 down, and Panesar feels the visiting side must include Arshdeep Singh in the playing XI in the fourth Test as conditions will be in his favour. In 21 first-class matches, he has taken 66 wickets so far.
“Arshdeep Singh needs to play. I am surprised that he didn’t play the first Test of the series. He is a left-arm seamer and will be a good option. He should be good in these English conditions,” Panesar told ANI.
Panesar also wants to see Jasprit Bumrah competing in the upcoming game. “The next match is a must-win game for India, and Jasprit Bumrah should play in it. The pitch will assist the fast bowlers as it has pace and bounce,” he added.
India haven’t revealed anything about the availability of the star bowler. The team will take a call on Bumrah’s selection before the match in Manchester.
“The series is on the line, but we will take a call on him in Manchester. We must look at the bigger picture,” he said. The sub-continent team is under pressure after losing the Lord’s Test by 22 runs. The team management needs to consider several points before picking their best playing XI.
