Mohammed Shami hasn’t been given the go-ahead for the remaining Test matches in Australia despite the pacer proving his fitness in domestic cricket. He played a Ranji Trophy match for Bengal against Madhya Pradesh and took 7 wickets. The veteran then competed in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, but the team management hasn’t urged the BCCI or selectors to send him to Australia despite missing his experience. After an ankle surgery and lengthy rehabilitation, he was asked to play in the New Zealand Test series.
He hasn’t played for India since the 2023 ODI World Cup final, and when it looked like he was about to return, the reports of his swollen knee started doing the rounds. However, the pacer refuted the claim calling all the stories false and cooked up. However, he suffered a major setback when captain Rohit Sharma said the same thing. And now a report in Dainik Jagran has revealed that Shami had a heated argument with Rohit over his swollen knee remark.
“When Shami was at the NCA, he met Rohit to confront him on his statement. India were in the city for the first Test against New Zealand, and the two had a heated argument,” Jagran quoted a source as saying.
Meanwhile, after losing the second Test against Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25, Rohit repeated the same statement.
“We are monitoring his progress, and he was again down with a swollen knee in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. We don’t want to take a risk with him as he could break down in Australia. He hasn’t played for India, and we don’t know how his body is going to react in Test matches. We want to be one hundred percent sure before asking the board and selectors to send him to Australia.
“The medical team of the NCA is keeping an eye on him and the call wil be taken accordingly,” Rohit said.
