Afghanistan all-rounder Mohammad Nabi created history when he became the second oldest bowler to pick up two wickets in the history of ODI cricket. He achieved the milestone in his team’s first ICC Champions Trophy 2025 match against South Africa on February 21.
Nabi is 40 years 51d old and is one of the best performers in Afghanistan. He dismissed Tony de Zorzi (11) and South Africa captain Temba Bavuma (58).
Jayasuriya was the oldest to claim more than two scalps in a fifty-over contest. The legendary all-rounder was 40y 89d when he dismissed three batters against New Zealand in the ICC Champions Trophy 2009. Ross Taylor, Neil Broom and Daniel Vettori were his scalps, but the Asian team lost the game by 38 runs. The Kiwis posted 315/7 and bowled out SL on a score of 277.
He is also the sixth-oldest player to play a match in the Champions Trophy.
Sri Lanka’s Jayasuriya (40y 89d), USA’s Mark Johnson (40y 321d), Tony Reid (42y 157d), Clayton Lambert (42y 213d) and Donovan Blake (42y 284d) are ahead of Nabi.
