Michael Vaughan compares Virat Kohli and Joe Root’s numbers in Test cricket
Michael Vaughan has compared Joe Root and Virat Kohli‘s numbers in Test cricket. He took to social media after Root amassed 143 runs off 206 balls in the first innings of the second Test against Sri Lanka. With 33 hundreds, he went past Kane Williamson and Steve Smith (32 centuries each) for the most tons in red-ball cricket in the Fab 4 list.
Root also equaled Alastair Cook’s record of most tons in a Test for England.

It seems Michael was mocking Virat’s numbers in Test cricket.
Root is the leading run-scorer among the active cricketers. The right-handed batter has amassed 12131 runs in 263 innings at an average of 50.33 with the help of 33 hundreds and 64 fifties.
He has slammed five double hundreds as well. Since 2021, Root has scored 4451 runs in 87 innings, hitting 16 tons and 15 fifties. At 33, he has a chance to surpass Sachin Tendulkar’s tally of 15,921 runs in Test cricket.
Meanwhile, Kohli has 8848 runs in 191 innings at an average of 49.15 in Tests. He has hit 29 centuries and 30 half-centuries. The veteran has hit seven double hundreds. Since 2021, the 35-year-old has scored 1539 runs in 44 innings, laced with two tons and seven fifties.
Overall, Kohli has managed to score 26942 runs in 533 international matches across formats, including 80 hundreds. On the other hand, Root has accumulated 19546 runs in 347 contests across formats. He has hit 49 centuries in international cricket.
Joe Root dedicated his 33rd Test hundred to Graham Thorpe
Joe Root has dedicated his 33 Test hundred to former England player Graham Thorpe, who died by suicide earlier this month.
“I have been lucky to work with Graham Thorpe. He is behind my success, and I would not have reacted to the top level without his help. I remembered him when I completed my hundred in the first innings. I am going to miss him,” he said.
