India were under pressure at the start of the third day of the fourth Test against England in Ranchi. The hosts were seven- wicket down, with England still ahead by more than 120 runs. Dhruv Jurel and Kuldeep Yadav were at the crease. Kuldeep batted for 130 deliveries to keep India in the game.
The chinaman spinner showed his talent with the ball by taking 4 wickets as England were bowled out for 122 runs in their second innings. Former England captain Michael Vaughan was pleased with Kuldeep and compared him with late Shane Warne.
“The best compliment I can give Kuldeep Yadav…today he has bowled today like a left armed Shane Warne,” Vaughan wrote on X.
The Indian left-arm spinner has often spoken about his bond with Warne. In an appearance on the YouTube talk show Breakfast With Champions, Kuldeep had revealed that how the Australian legend calmed his nerves ahead of the Test series against Australia in 2018.
“I was very nervous before the Test match. Shane Warne told me to enjoy my bowling without any pressure and bowl with a smile. When I took five-wickets in Sydney, I dedicated my milestone to him. I saw him crying.”
Ashwin, who took 5 wickets in the second innings, heaped massive praise on Yadav.
Ashwin said that Kuldeep’s batting on day 3 kept the dressing room calm, “It was not easy but Kuldeep batted well for the team. We were calm when he was batting. His defence was good and he showed grit and composure.”
“I stole the fifer from him. I loved the way he has worked on his run-up and momentum.”
