Matthew Hayden has promised to walk naked around the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) if Joe Root fails to score a hundred in the Ashes 2025-26. The Test series between Australia and England will be played from November 21 to January 8, 2026.
England have lost the last three Ashes series Down Under and haven’t won a Test in Australia since 2011. A lot will depend on Joe Root, who hasn’t scored a century in Australia.
“He is the complete package and averages above 40. I will walk nude around the MCG if he doesn’t score a century this summer,” Hayden said.
In 27 Test innings, the right-handed batter has amassed 892 runs at an average of 35.68, with nine fifties. He has passed 80 on three occasions in Australia but didn’t reach the three-figure mark.
Meanwhile, he has been dealing with hundreds in the post-COVID era and has become the second-highest run-getter in the longest format of the game. Root has accumulated 13,543 runs, with only Sachin Tendulkar (15,921 runs) ahead of him.
He will have a tough challenge ahead of him in the five-day matches against the Pat Cummins-led team. The English team would want him to score a ton against the arch-rivals.
