Lucknow Super Giants’ coach praises Ekana pitch, calls it best in IPL 2024
Lucknow Super Giants head coach Justin Langer has showered praise on the surface at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow. According to Langer, the Ekana pitch is the best surface in IPL 2024. The former Australian batter believes the surface offers a genuine bat-versus-ball contest.
While speaking at the press conference after the loss against Delhi Capitals, Langer said that they lost early wickets and could not use the powerplay overs correctly,
“It was a gettable score as it was a batting surface. We lost wickets in the powerplay and couldn’t maximize in the first 6 overs. We should have batted effectively and smartly on this wicket,” Langer stated.
He further claimed that the Lucknow pitch is the best pitch in the IPL 2024. He elaborated saying that the Ekana pitch has given fair challenge to the bowlers and the batters.
“I believe the Lucknow surface is the best pitch in IPL 2024. It has offered an equal contest between the ball and bat. It is rather more competitive surface than at any other venues. In this season the pitches have been more one-sided towards the batters,” he explained.
Although teams have racked up enormous totals in most venues, LSG has had a mixed record at their home turf. High-scoring chases have been aided by the batting side’s explosiveness and the first innings’ explosive powerplay.
Langer expresses his excitement as the sport is evolving and looks forward to see an explosive cricket showdown in the upcoming T20 World Cup in USA and West Indies.
“The game has changed so much, lets see if they can maintain this level of aggressiveness in the World Cup, but it’s definitely been extremely aggressive cricket,” Langer added.
Even though they lost by 19 runs, LSG still have a chance to make it to the top four. They have gathered 14 points, but their net run rate could be the deciding factor. They will now square off against Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium on Friday for their last group stage match.
