Delhi Capitals’ four-match winning streak was ended by Mumbai Indians as the visiting franchise registered a 12-run win. Axar Patel, the captain of the hosts, was also punished by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for breaching the IPL code of conduct during the contest against MI. Delhi couldn’t complete 20 overs on time, and their skipper was fined INR 12 lakh as it was their first offence.
“This was the first offence of the team, and he was fined INR 12 lakh,” the IPL media release read. Delhi were unbeaten in the 18th season before the Indians gave them a reality check. Chasing 206 for their fifth win, Delhi was 135/2 when Karun Nair departed after accumulating 89 runs off 40 balls. Spinners Karn Sharma and Mitchell Santner triggered a collapse as DC were bowled out for 193.
The 33-year-old Nair was used as an impact sub, and he went on to hit 12 fours and 5 sixes in his entertaining knock. He didn’t allow Jasprit Bumrah to settle down, hitting the speedster for sixes and fours.
Meanwhile, Mumbai returned to winning ways with their second victory in six matches. Needing 23 runs off the last 12 balls, Ashutosh hit Bumrah for two boundaries, but three consecutive run-outs ended Delhi’s innings.
