“Let him deal with it”: Ravi Shastri reveals the biggest challenge for Vaibhav Suryavanshi
After Vaibhav Suryavanshi‘s historic IPL century, former India coach Ravi Shastri lauded the young batter. Shastri also underlined the importance of patience.
Vaibhav’s powerful 101 off just 38 balls, which included seven fours and eleven sixes, helped Rajasthan Royals beat Gujarat Titans by eight wickets. His century, achieved in just 35 balls, ranks as the second-fastest in IPL history, behind only Chris Gayle’s 30-ball hundred.
In an interview with Sanjana Ganesan, Shastri stated that he saw Suryavanshi’s skills early in the season.
“I think the first shot he played against Lucknow, that six off his very first IPL ball, would have left everyone in awe,” Shastri said.
The former India all-rounder mentioned that it’s too soon to make a judgement on Vaibhav’s future.
“He’s still young, so let him play. At this age, failures are bound to happen,” Shastri cautioned.
“It’s all about how he deals with setbacks, as opponents will come up with plans,” Shastri added.
Shastri predicted that Suryavanshi’s next challenge will be pace and bounce.
“Next time he steps up to bat, he’ll be tested with bouncers. When you smash someone’s first ball for a six, you show no mercy. Age doesn’t matter. Whether you’re 14, 12, or 20, the plan remains the same.
“Once he deals with the short-pitched stuff, then you can make a proper judgment,”he concluded.
