In a major setback for Team India ahead of the third Test against England, star batter KL Rahul has been ruled out due to his injury. According to a report from The Indian Express, KL Rahul hasn’t received the fitness clearance from the BCCI medical team. On Saturday, BCCI had stated that KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja would only participate subject to their fitness clearance.
The crucial series against England is tied at 1-1 and according to the latest development KL Rahul would be observed closely for one more week before declaring his availability for the rest of the series. One of the mainstays of the Indian team, KL Rahul had suffered quadriceps pain after the first Test in Hyderabad and was ruled out of the subsequent Vizag Test.
The ongoing series has been impacted by injuries and withdrawals. The absence of Virat Kohli, the team’s superstar, due to personal reasons has been the biggest blow for the Rohit Sharma team. Shreyas Iyer also lost his place in the side due to a lack of runs. Ravindra Jadeja and KL Rahul’s injuries only add to the woes. The left-arm spinner has been given a green signal for the third Test after recovering from a hamstring injury.
Karnataka batsman Devdutt Padikkal who has been in exceptional form in the Ranji Trophy has been called in as a replacement for KL Rahul. Padikkal scored 151 in the recently concluded game against Tamil Nadu. He has also scored centuries against Goa and Punjab and averages 104. Overall Padikkal has scored 556 runs in 6 innings with three centuries and a fifty.
As the Indian team prepares to face England in Rajkot, the absence of KL Rahul adds to the challenges, making Padikkal’s inclusion crucial for the team’s success.
