Kiwi pacer, who once physically harassed Yuzvendra Chahal, appointed bowling coach of Sunrisers Hyderabad
With Dale Steyn taking a break from the Indian Premier League 2024, Sunrisers Hyderabad have appointed legendary New Zealand all-rounder as their bowling coach. James Franklin, who once physically harassed Yuzvendra Chahal, has joined the Orange Army.
He was added to the squad on Daniel Vettori’s request. Vettori is the head coach of the 2016 IPL champions.
For Franklin, who represented Mumbai Indians in 2011 and 2012, this will be his maiden coaching stint in the tournament. Vettori and Franklin have previously worked together at Middlesex (county cricket) and Birmingham Phoenix (the Hundred). Franklin had also worked as a head coach of Durham, and currently associated with Islamabad United as an assistant coach in the Pakistan Super League.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Pat Cummins, Marco Jansen, Umran Malik, T Natarajan, Fazalhaq Farooqi, Jaydev Unadkat and Akash Singh are the pacers in the Sunrisers camp.
Wanindu Hasaranga, Washington Sundar and Shahbaz Ahmed will share the responsibility in the spin bowling department.
Coming back to Chahal’s episode, he was mistreated by James Franklin and Andrew Symonds in 2011.
They had tied his legs and hands and also taped his mouth, before leaving him in the room for an entire night.
“It happened when Mumbai Indians won the Champions League in 2011. We were in Chennai and I don’t know what James Franklin and Andrew Symonds were thinking. They tied my hands and legs and taped my mouth before leaving me to attend the party.”
