Mohammed Siraj has become a different bowler after joining the Gujarat Titans in the Indian Premier League. His pace and Yorkers are back, and the speedster is taking wickets from the new and old ball. He was dropped from Team India after the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, and Indian captain Rohit Sharma revealed that Siraj was not a potential threat to the batters with the old ball. The team management and the selectors decided to include Harshit Rana in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
The setback was big, but Siraj didn’t let it ruin his bowling. After failing to come to terms for a few days, he decided to play domestic cricket and work hard on his fitness and weaknesses. The 12.25 crore buy of GT has taken 14 wickets from 10 matches at an average of 24.28 and a strike rate of 8.94.
Navjot Singh Sidhu saluted the pacer’s never-say-die attitude. “DSP Siraj knows how to come back. The Indian captain said that he couldn’t bowl with the old ball, while some said he was not good with the new ball. He has proved his critics wrong and is now taking wickets with the new and old ball,” he said.
“He was bowling at 130 kmph in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy but is now constantly touching the 138-140 kmph mark in the Indian Premier League. He wants to improve as a bowler. Make Siraj SSP from DSP, as he deserves a promotion. If it were in my hands, I would have made him DIG,” he added.
Pragyan Ojha opined on the emotional side of Siraj. “He is emotional. We saw him crying during the National Anthem. Emotions bring out the best in him.”
