Indian cricketer Ishan Kishan has been making headlines with his decision to skip the Ranji Trophy and instead participate in the DY Patil T20 tournament. This move has sparked concerns about his dedication to red-ball cricket.
Kishan, who took a break from the South Africa tour due to mental fatigue, has been training in Vadodara and spending time with his family. His absence from the Ranji Trophy has raised questions about his commitment to domestic cricket, especially in the context of BCCI’s emphasis on it as a critical criterion for selection to the national team.
A source close to Ishan Kishan, however, confirmed that the BCCI’s notice wasn’t for the swashbuckling left-hander and he is focused on preparing for the upcoming T20 World Cup.
“Ishan has consistently placed importance on the Ranji Trophy. During the 2022-23 season, despite frequent travel commitments with the Indian cricket team, he managed to participate in a couple of Ranji Trophy matches. In one notable instance, he scored a century against Kerala, leading to his inclusion in India’s Test team. All these allegations are baseless,” the source said to Indian Express.
“He plans to request a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the board. His intention is to join the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) team. His goal is to secure a position in India’s T20 World Cup squad through a successful performance in the IPL. Although it’s a challenging journey, the desire to play cricket has returned, and he aims to participate in all three formats,” the source added.
Kishan’s decision to prioritize the DY Patil T20 tournament over the Ranji Trophy has led to speculation about his future plans and his focus on different formats of the game. While there have been reports and statements regarding his absence from the Ranji Trophy and the implications of his decision, Kishan has expressed his determination to make a comeback and earn his spot in India’s T20 World Cup squad.
