Former India player Ravi Shastri has been impressed by Australian Test debutant Sam Konstas after his sensational hitting against the Rohit Sharma-led team on Day 1 of the first Test at the Melbourne Cricket. Jasprit Bumrah looked clueless for the first time in the series, with the 19-year-old hitting him for boundaries and sixes. Despite trying his best, the speedster couldn’t take his wicket, and even Mohammed Siraj was below-par.
Ravindra Jadeja managed to break the 89-run partnership between Sam and Usman Khawaja when he trapped the former in front of the wicket. He scored 60 runs off 65 balls, including 6 fours and 2 sixes. Shastri lauded the batter and even compared him with Virender Sehwag.
“He batted fearlessly like Virender Sehwag. Viru was sensational against Australia in 2003, and Konstas had that kind of attitude and approach at the crease. He has a big range and is a strong lad, who can hit the ball a long way,” Ravi Shastri said on Star Sports.
Ravi also spoke about the possibility of an IPL contract for the Aussie opener. “He would have got an IPL contract if he had played a similar innings before the mega auction. If this knock had come before the auction, the franchises would have gone after his name. Sam looks like a player who can hammer the bowlers without worrying about the situation,” he added.
