India played its first home day-night Test against Bangladesh at Eden Gardens in November 2019. The subcontinent nation has organized three such games, but the BCCI is not in favor of the pink ball Test.
It’s been two years since India played a day-night Test at home, even though the team is scheduled to compete in a pink-ball game during the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy later this year.
BCCI secretary Jay Shah revealed why India will not host the day-night Tests in the future. According to him, the contests don’t last long and are over in 2-3 days in India.
“You buy a ticket for a five-day match, but the game finishes in 2-3 days. There is no refund. I am emotional about it,” he told the Times of India.
India’s first day-night Test against Bangladesh ended in three days, while the second such contest with England was over in two days. In India’s third Test, the home team defeated Sri Lanka by 238 runs.
Shah also revealed that India refused to host the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 after the apex body approached the BCCI, considering the turmoil in Bangladesh, the tournament’s original host country.
