Australia won all the sessions on Day 1 of the second Test against India at the Adelaide Oval. After dismissing the visitors for just 180 runs, the Aussie were 86/1 im 33 overs at stumps. Although the sub-continent team is still ahead by 94 runs, Australia can easily cross their score, considering the batting conditions in the first session of the day.
Nathan McSweeney (38*) and Marnus Labuschagne (20*) were at the crease.
Cheteshwar Pujara, who is not a part of the team, urged the bowlers to contain the batters instead of going for wickets. “The bowling was not impresive despite conditions in favour of the bowlers. The first session on Day 2 will be best for batting and the ball will not do much.
“Indian bowlers shouldn’t try too much to take wickets as it will be important to stop batters from scoring easy runs. If the bowlers bowl a tight line and length, they can capitalize on it in the second and third sessions,” Cheteshwar Pujara said on Star Sports.
Indian batters were once again guilty of not spending time in the middle. Nitish Kumar Reddy (42) was the highest run-scorer for the Indian team. The likes of KL Rahul, Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant had starts but couldn’t carry on.
Mitchell Starc was unplayable and took six wickets in the first innings of the day-night Test. Captain Pat Cummins and returning Scott Boland dismissed two batters each, respectively.
