Former player Sunil Gavaskar is surprised that India have forgotten to bowl bouncers to Australian batters. He pointed out that not even a single bouncer was bowled to the rivals on Day 1 of the ongoing third Test in Brisbane. Usman Khawaja and Nathan McSweeney survived 13.2 overs on a day impacted by rain.
Gavaskar also highlighted Travis Head’s 140-run knock in the pink-ball Test, where the southpaw was not put under pressure by well-guided short-pitched stuff.
There were only a few bouncers that were directed towards the batter, and he managed to survive. Cheteshwar Pujara, Harbhajan Singh, Ravi Shastri, and Gavaskar have been talking about targeting Travis with bouncers, but the Indian bowlers have not used it to their advantage.
Gavaskar seemed upset with the strategy of the visiting team and took a savage dig at the pacers.
“Pacers like bowling bouncers but I don’t know what is wrong with the Indian bowlers. They allowed Travis Head to score a hundred in the second Test because it was his home ground. But what is stopping them now? There were no bouncers on Day 1 of the third Test,” Sunil Gavaskar said on Star Sports.
Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Harshit Rana and Nitish Kumar Reddy were clueless in front of the Head in the day-night Test.
When Jatin Sapru asked him about the possible reason, he gave a brutal reply. “This question should be put in front of the team management as I don’t have an answer. I don’t understand what is happening,” he added.
Australia were 28/0 when the play was called off due to rain at the Gabba.
