India are currently playing a five-match series against Australis. The visitors won the first match by 295 runs. Jasprit Bumrah took eight wickets as India registered a 295-run win at the Optus Stadium in Perth.
Bumrah was the captain in Rohit Sharma’s absence, and his five-wicket haul in the first innings restricted Australia to 104 after India had posted 150. With a 46-run lead, India National Cricket Team batters capitalized on it, with Yashasvi Jaiswal (161), Virat Kohli (100*), and KL Rahul (77) taking the score to 487/6 declared. Australia were bowled out for 238 while chasing 534.
Meanwhile, Mumbai Indians retained Bumrah for INR 18 crore, and he will play a key role for the five-time champions in IPL 2025. Gujarat Titans head coach Ashish Nehra feels that a purse of INR 520 crore would not have been enough had Bumrah come to the mega auction.
“Bumrah has done it numerous times. He was leading the side as Rohit Sharma was not there, and he was under pressure. But Bumrah handled everything, and he should be praised for it.
“It was good to see a captain leading from the front knowing what happened in the previous series against New Zealand. If Bumrah had come to the mega auction, even a purse of INR 520 crore would have not been enough for the franchises,” he told Star Sports, as quoted by Times Now.
