Sunrisers Hyderabad registered their fifth win of the season in the Indian Premier League 2025 on May 23. Ishan Kishan, the discarded Indian player, scored an unbeaten 94 runs off 48 balls, with the help of 7 boundaries and 5 sixes in Lucknow. Hyderabad posted 231/6 and then dismissed Royal Challengers Bengaluru for 189 in 19.5 overs. Ishan Kishan was named the Player of the Match for his effort in the 13th match of his team.
The southpaw started the tournament with a hundred against Rajasthan Royals at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium but lost his form in the next 11 games before the recent clash with RCB. He was expected to win matches for the last year’s finalists after joining the franchise for INR 11.25 crore.
Harbhajan Singh and Saba Karim, the two former India players, opined on Ishan’s form and performance. “If his form had stayed, Sunrisers Hyderabad wouldn’t have been in this position in the points table. Ishan has all the qualities of a good batter and he can play all the strokes,” Harbhajan Singh said on Star Sports.
Saba was surprised that Kishan lacks consistency. “It is surprising that he is not consistent despite all the skills and talent. His needs to work on his game awareness,” Saba said.
“He justified his no.3 slot against SRH. Ishan can play aggressively and also stop the fall of wickets when needed. He is still young. I know other wicket-keepers are ahead of him but he is back in Team India’s reckoning with his selection in India A squad,” he added.
Ishan will travel to England for two unofficial Tests against England Lions.
