Former England captain Nasser Hussain asked Michael Atherton if it was the best series or even better than the Ashes in 2005.
Michael Atherton doesn’t think that the recently concluded Test series between India and England was the best. The five Test matches were full of action, excitement, and drama, with players from both sides giving their best. Shubman Gill scored 754 runs, and Mohammed Siraj took 23 wickets. The young Indian side managed to draw the series 2-2.
Rishabh Pant scored twin hundreds in the series opener, but England won the Test by five wickets. India returned to winning ways in the second contest, with captain Gill amassing over 400 runs. The Lord’s game was a close affair, and the host team managed to register a 22-run victory.
The fourth Test saw the visiting team showing their fighting spirit and making sure that the outcome was a draw. In the fifth and final Test, Gill’s team didn’t give up and secured a 6-run win.

‘I don’t think the quality was as good as Ashes 2005. The great team was on a decline, and the other team was emerging. There were great players at the top of their game. But the ENG vs IND series was the best since 2005,” Atherton said on SKY Sports.
“The Ashes in 2023 was also good but I will put this series as the best since 2005 because of the moments like Chris Woakes and Rishabh Pant. There were enough twists and turns in the series,” he added.
Atherton and Nasser were the commentators during the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy.
