“I don’t need to prove anything to anyone”: Shreyas Iyer Silences Critics With a Strong-Worded Message

Shreyas Iyer had a fantastic run in ODI cricket over the last two months. His journey started with uncertainty about his role in the team. But by the end, he finished as India’s top run-scorer in the victorious Champions Trophy 2025. His strong performances in Dubai sent a clear message to his critics.

Iyer has always struggled against short-pitched deliveries, and opponents have often targeted this weakness. New Zealand tried the same tactic in the group stage of the Champions Trophy, but Iyer was ready. He played a match-winning knock of 79 runs, helping India win the game.

Speaking to Hindustan Times, Iyer said he had no regrets about missing a century. He was happy because his runs helped India win.

“I might have reached a century, but I have no regrets. It felt even better because I helped the team set a good total, and we secured a 44-run victory,” he said.

Iyer’s Confidence from Domestic Cricket

Iyer was asked if his confidence against short balls came from the two sixes he hit against Jofra Archer in the recent England ODI series. He said that his domestic season played a big role.

“In terms of confidence, yes. But in my domestic season, I played many matches and hit sixes off difficult deliveries. That gave me confidence,” he explained.

He also said he had worked on his wide stance. This helped him create a strong base and generate power in his shots.

Letting His Bat Do the Talking

When asked if he had a message for his critics, Iyer confidently replied that he didn’t need to say anything.

“I don’t need to prove anything to anyone. My focus is on believing in myself and playing my best cricket. The results speak for themselves,” he said.

Hard Work Behind the Scenes

Iyer credited his success to his behind-the-scenes work. He thanked his coaches Pravin Amre and Abhishek Nayar, as well as his trainer Sagar and nutritionist Nicole Kedia.

“The hard work you put in is tested when you play. Many people helped me in this process,” he added.

Iyer’s strong performances have silenced his critics and cemented his place in the Indian team.
