Punjab Kings (PBKS) batter Shashank Singh said that Shreyas Iyer should’ve slapped him instead of just scolding for his needless run-out in Qualifier 2 against Mumbai Indians (MI) in Indian Premier League 2025. PBKS beat Mumbai by five wickets as they completed the chase of 204 in 19 overs, courtesy of a magnificent innings of Iyer (87* off 41).
Iyer was miffed with Shashank for his running, which led to his run out. The right-handed batter opened up on the incident and said that the PBKS captain should’ve slapped him. He also revealed that even his father had stopped talking to him.
“Shreyas Iyer should have slapped me. I deserve it. My father stopped talking to me till the final against Royal Challengers Bengaluru. I didn’t take the situation seriously and behaved causally. Shreyas was not expecting this from me but he took me out for dinner,” Shashank told Indian Express.
Shashank also opened up on his impressive knock in the final and revealed that he wanted to leave 24 runs for the last over of the match. However, Bhuvneshwar Kumar was spot on in the 19th over and pushed it to 30.
“I wanted to hit Bhuvi for 16-17 runs as I wanted to keep 24 runs for the last over. However, we managed 13 from Bhuvi’s 6 balls, which pushed the remaining target to 30 runs,” he added.
Shashank amassed an unbeaten 61 runs off 30 deliveries, laced with 6 sixes and 3 fours as PBKS lost the contest by 6 runs. The 33-year-old was seen crying after failing to win the finale for his franchise.
Shashank accumulated 350 runs from 14 innings at an average of 50 and a strike rate of 153.50 in IPL 2025.
