Mumbai Indians registered their first win of IPL 2025 when they defeated Kolkata Knight Riders by 8 wickets in their third contest of the season. The franchise has been impacted by the absence of Jasprit Bumrah, who is currently working at the National Cricket Academy. The speedster had suffered a back injury in the fifth and final Test against Australia, and since then, he has been out of action.
There were reports of his return in April, but that turned out to be fake as the pacer hasn’t recovered from his latest injury setback. Trent Boult, Deepak Chahar and Hardik Pandya are part of Mumbai’s pace battery in Bumrah’s absence. The five-time champions were not clinical against Chennai Super Kings and Gujarat Titans in the first two matches.
Chahar, who got rid of two KKR batters, is eagerly waiting for the return of Bumrah. “I am waiting for Jasprit Bumrah’s return. He takes wickets in the powerplay overs, and if your team wins this phase of the game, it ends up registering a victory in the match.
“Bumrah gives you that edge. Other teams prepare more when Bumrah is in the playing XI of MI, and that gives you an advantage,” he said.
