Australia have qualified for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 semi-finals after their match against Afghanistan was called off due to rain. Chasing 274, the Aussies were 109/1 in 12.5 when the game was stopped due to a downpour in Lahore. Despite the best efforts of the ground staff, the outfield remained wet, and the officials had to end the proceedings, meaning one point each for both teams. Australia booked their place in the next round with four points from three matches.
They will face the top team of Group A, which will be decided after the game between and New Zealand in Dubai. The victorious team will top the group and take on the Steve Smith-led team.
Former player Mohammad Kaif opined on the possibility of the Men in Blue defeating the Kiwis and facing Australia.
“Travis Head is a headache for India and a big match player. Head has turned to form at the right time, and he would be eager to play against his favorite rivals,” Kaif said on Sports18.
Piyush Chawla mentioned that although Australia’s bowling is weak, the bowlers can still impact the game’s outcome. “They are missing Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins, and Josh Hazlewood, but the bowlers who have replaced them have played a lot of domestic cricket. You can’t take Australia lightly in knockouts easily. They didn’t let England win despite the latter scoring 351 runs,” he said.
