Shubman Gill is learning from these two and is now ready to take Indian cricket forward. He has emerged as the next biggest superstar and is dealing in the fifties and hundreds in the one-day format. The 25-year-old amassed a hundred against Bangladesh in the opening game of the ongoing global tournament.
In the next clash with Pakistan, he contributed a well-compiled 46 runs as the Men in Blue registered a 6-wicket victory to make it to the semi-final of the tournament.
Harbhajan Singh lauded the young batter for finally taking up the responsibility of winning the matches for his country. “He has Virat and Rohit traits. His cover drives against Pakistan were pretty similar to Kohli’s trademark stroke. His pull shot reminds me of Rohit.
“The best part of Gill is that he doesn’t throw away his wicket by playing reckless shots. He refrains himself from playing fancy shots and that is what makes him special,” he said on Sports18.
Bhajji also highlighted Shubman’s special quality. “Even if you are chasing 300 or 350, he will keep you in the game. He doesn’t give his wicket. I have known him since his U-19 days. You have to fast-forward such players; otherwise, their talent would be wasted. There is no point of wasting their talent in the age group cricket,” he added.
