Virat Kohli once again displayed why he is called the greatest ODI batter in the history of cricket. The 36-year-old played the perfect knock against Australia in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 semifinal. He didn’t go for the glory shots and kept the situation of the match under control by taking singles and doubles. Former India player Ambati Rayudu, who has played with Kohli, highlighted the one quality that makes him special.
The former captain hit just five boundaries on a slow pitch, and the ball didn’t come nicely onto the bat. The deliveries were stopping, and stroke-making was difficult, but Virat kept ticking the scoreboard with other batters hitting boundaries and sixes. He also got a lifeline when Glenn Maxwell dropped his catch, and the batter capitalized on it to take the team through in a challenging contest.
Rayudu was pleased to see Virat’s second phenomenal in the global tournament. Earlier, he had scored an unbeaten 100 runs off 111 balls against Pakistan at Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
“Virat Kohli has all the shots in his batting arsenal, but one thing that makes him special is his mind control. He didn’t allow the situation to get the better of him at any stage of the game and took 50 (56) singles against Australia. Hopefully, Virat will score a big hundred in the final and that would be a perfect finish for him,” Ambati Rayudu said on Sports18.
