Team India’s head coach, Gautam Gambhir, is not a happy man these days, and Yashasvi Jaiswal is one of the reasons. The youngster dropped four catches in the first Test against England, which played a major role in India’s defeat by 5 wickets in Leeds. Although the southpaw scored a hundred in the first innings, his costly mistakes were taken seriously by the team management. He has been removed from the slip cordon, with Sai Sudharsan taking his place.
During one of the practice sessions ahead of the second Test, Gambhir was involved in an animated conversation with Jaiswal. Gambhir showed him techniques for short catching in the presence of assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate.
“Gautam Gambhir doesn’t look happy at all,” a report by Revsportz said.
Ten Doeschate spoke about the matter in the press conference on Monday. “We want depth in the catching department. In England, you are going to get four catches at some stage of the match. Yashasvi has been a good catcher for us. The short leg is an important position. If we are going to play two spinners, we want to pick the right guys in that position,” he said.
“We want to give Yashasvi a break from catching in the gully. His hands are quite sore and we want to bring his confidence back,” he added.
India will be aiming to level the series, and Jaiswal is a vital cog in the batting department.
