England’s Harry Brook has dethroned his teammate Joe Root from the top spot in the ICC Test Rankings for Batters. Brook achieved the No. 1 spot following an impressive 158-run in the first innings of the second Test against India at Edgbaston. Root has dropped to second place.
Meanwhile, India’s captain Shubman Gill climbed to a career-best sixth position after scoring 269 and 161 in Edgbaston Test, setting a new record for the most runs in a red-ball game by an Indian player. Gill is now 79 rating points behind Brook, with Root holding the second spot, Kane Williamson in third, Yashasvi Jaiswal in fourth, and Steve Smith in fifth.
England wicketkeeper Jamie Smith made a remarkable jump, rising from 26th to 10th after scores of 184 not out and 88 in the second Test against India. South Africa’s Wiaan Mulder also saw a notable jump, moving to 22nd after his unbeaten 367 against Zimbabwe.
Mulder’s impressive performance also elevated him in the all-rounder rankings, where he climbed 12 spots to reach third place, while India’s Ravindra Jadeja continues to occupy the top position.
Despite missing the Test at Edgbaston, Jasprit Bumrah retained his position as the world’s No. 1 Test bowler. In the meantime, his fellow teammate Mohammed Siraj improved by six positions, rising to 22nd.
In the latest ODI rankings update, Sri Lanka’s Charith Asalanka climbed to sixth among batters, while Kusal Mendis moved up to 10th. Sri Lanka’s Wanindu Hasaranga, who claimed nine wickets in three matches during the ODI series against Bangladesh, surged to eighth place among bowlers.
