Good News for Mumbai Indians: Jasprit Bumrah Resumes Bowling in Nets Ahead of IPL Return
Jasprit Bumrah, the fast bowler for India and Mumbai Indians (MI), has resumed bowling in the nets at the Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru. Bumrah has been sidelined since the fifth Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25, played in Sydney. He was also ruled out of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 and has yet to make his return to action.
The Mumbai Indians, having lost their first two matches of IPL 2025, are anxiously awaiting Bumrah’s comeback. Thankfully, the pacer has started bowling in the nets again, gradually regaining full fitness. In a viral video, Bumrah was seen bowling with full intensity, raising hopes of his swift return.
Recently, MI’s head coach, Mahela Jayawardene, provided an update on Bumrah’s recovery, stating that he has been following his daily fitness programme and has made significant progress. However, the medical staff at the Centre of Excellence has not yet provided a specific timeline for his return.

Bumrah was initially expected to be fit for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 and had been named in the squad. However, he was replaced by Harshit Rana as the BCCI decided not to rush his recovery. Bumrah’s services will be crucial for India as they embark on their next World Test Championship (WTC) cycle in England, starting on June 20.
India will be counting on Bumrah to help them secure their first Test series win in England since 2007. Before his injury, Bumrah had an outstanding 2024, playing a key role in India’s victory in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 and finishing as the highest wicket-taker in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 with 32 wickets. His remarkable achievements earned him the prestigious ICC Cricketer of the Year and ICC Test Cricketer of the Year awards.
