India defeated New Zealand by 4 wickets in the ICC Champions Trophy final 2025. The result could have gone either way after the Indian batters played reckless shots, but the presence of KL Rahul in the middle led the team to a win. Rohit Sharma, Shreyas Iyer, Axar Patel and Hardik Pandya were responsible for putting the Men in Blue under pressure despite playing good innings. Rahul’s cool and calm approach finished the game in the team’s favour. Chasing 252 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, the sub-continent team completed the task in 49 overs.
He amassed 34 runs off 33 deliveries, with the help of 1 four and 1 six. His partnerships with Axar, Hardik and Jadeja were meaningful, considering the pressure of the big occasion.
The right-handed batter was pleased with his effort and was grateful after winning the maiden ICC title. “I am on top, and it is the best feeling to win the Champions Trophy. My focus is to win the titles for my team. I saw the team winning the T20 World Cup last year and wanted to taste the success.
“God has put me in a situation where I can win matches for the team. This is something special, this is something divine,” he said.
Rahul also spoke about failing to lift the 2023 ODI World Cup trophy. India were beaten by Australia in the final. “Look, I have left it behind and don’t want to think about it,” he added.
