Legendary fast bowler Glenn McGrath feels that Virat Kohli could fail in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024 in Australia if he doesn’t score runs at the start of the five-match series Down Under. McGrath claimed that Kohli is emotional and struggles when he is down.
Kohli hasn’t enjoyed success in the most extended format of the game this year and scored just 93 runs in six innings against New Zealand. Speaking to CODE Sports’ Daniel Cherny, McGrath said that Australia will go hard against Kohli, and if he can control his emotions, there is a possibility of him returning to form. Glenn said that Kohli could feel the pressure.
“Australian bowlers will go hard against him and he is likely to fail if he doesn’t control his emotions,” he said.
“He is under pressure at the moment, and if he registers a few low scores in the first two matches, he could be found wanting.
“He is an emotional player. When he is up, he is up and when he is down, he starts struggling.”
India were beaten 0-3 by New Zealand in the previous Test series, and McGrath stressed that Australia have enough firepower to thrash India.
“India lost 0-3 to New Zealand and Australia should put pressure on them.”
India and Australia will start the much-awaited series on November 22 in Perth.
