Virender Sehwag was one of the most destructive batters during his active days in international cricket. He was renowned for his aggressive batting across formats and hit two triple centuries in Test cricket.
He scored 309 runs against Pakistan in the first innings of the opening Test in 2004. His 319 runs came against South Africa in 2008. The right-handed achieved the feat in the series opener.
Viru missed his third triple century by 7 runs against Sri Lanka in 2009. In the third and final Test against the visiting team, he amassed 293.
He recently spoke about it during the IPL 2025 match between the Rajasthan Royals and the Punjab Kings in Jaipur. He was talking about Riyan Parag’s bowling and why the young player is not a part-time bowler.
“Riyan Parag is not a part-time bowler if we look at the number of overs he has bowled in this IPL season. I was once dismissed by a part-time bowler who was none other than Shikhar Dhawan. When he was given the ball, I thought it would be an insult for me if I didn’t hit him for boundaries,” Sehwag said.
“However, I failed to connect the third ball and was caught. Getting dismissed by Shikhar Dhawan was more painful than missing out on scoring a third triple Test hundred. I was upset with myself as you don’t want to lose your wicket to a part-time bowler,” he added.
Meanwhile, Punjab defeated Rajasthan by 10 runs to reach 17 points from 12 matches. They are second in the points table on the basis of net run rate, with Royal Challengers Bengaluru leading the standings.
