Former Pakistan cricketer Basit Ali slammed the Indian head coach Gautam Gambhir after the visitors were humiliated by Australia in the fourth Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. Chasing 340, India were bowled out for 155 on Day 5 of the contest. He questioned the team’s planning in the Boxing Day Test, wondering why Nitish Kumar Reddy was not promoted to the No.6 slot despite scoring a hundred in the first innings. .
Yashasvi Jaiswal scored 84 runs while Rishabh Pant managed 30 in the second innings. Ali felt that India missed a trick by not promoting the all-rounder.
“Congratulations to Gambhir. He bats for the left-right combination in the fifty-ovee format but didn’t promote Nitish Kumar Reddy when it was needed in the second innings. He should have batted at No.6 and even if the batter had failed, it would have showed that Gambhir tried something different,” he said.
The 54-year-old also blasted the assistant coaches for failing to give suggestions to batters.
“I don’t know what batting coach is doing as he has been unable to give right suggestions to batters. He also suggested that India should have separate coaches for the white-ball cricket and Test matches.
