Former Pakistan captain Inzamam ul Haq has slammed the cricket board for removing Mohammad Hafeez from the post of Team Director due to poor performances in Australia and New Zealand. He said that targeting former players in administrative roles is incorrect when others refuse to accept responsibility for the performances.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) parted ways with Hafeez following a 0-3 Test series defeat in Australia and a 1-4 loss in T20Is to New Zealand. After the two tours, Hafeez was assured of a long-term contract but was told to leave.
‘Hafeez has been removed, but Wahab Riaz remains the team’s chief selector. How can you treat two of them differently? If Hafeez is being held responsible why not Raiz. They both were responsible for taking the team forward, but only Hafeez has been held responsible,” he said.
The former player, who resigned from the post of chief selector last year during the ICC World Cup 2023, urged the PCB to treat players with respect.
“The PCB chairman is respectable, but the former players deserve respect. I met with PCB chairman Zaka Ashraf when the news of the conflict of interest surfaced against me. I was with (PCB officials) Salman Naseer and Aliya Rasheed, waiting for the Chairman.
“He never came to the office but went to the academy. Naseer and Aliya were told to meet him there. After a while, only Aliya returned and told that an inquiry has been initiated against me,” he said,
‘I was hurt by the behavior of the Chairman. All the details of the agents and their companies are available with the ICC and PCB. I choose to resign so that they can complete the inquiry.”
