Pakistan opener Fakhar Zaman is expected to return to the white-ball teams and the central contracts list after he apologized to PCB for his post on Babar Azam.
A PCB source has revealed that a committee will assess Fakhar’s response to the board’s show-cause notice.
The southpaw has expressed regret for his actions. “Fakhar’s reply is apologetic, and he accepted his mistake,” the source added.
PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, the selectors, and new captain Mohammad Rizwan discussed Zaman, and it has been decided to bring him back.
Although he will not play in the shorter formats series in Australia and Zimbabwe, Fakhar is likely to be included in the squad for the white-ball series against South Africa in December.
“He is likely to be a part of the team that will take on South Africa and will then get back his central contract,” the source explained.
The selectors have told the batter to work on his fitness and a knee injury that has impacted him in recent months. He will have to secure a fitness certificate before playing for the Men in Green.
His role will become important, considering that Pakistan is the host nation of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. “White-ball skipper Mohammad Rizwan and the selectors know Fakhar’s importance as a batter, and with Pakistan hosting the ICC tournament, his experience will help the team,” the source revealed.
