Looking for a new city break destination? A city in Europe’s Balkan region could be the perfect spot.

The Siege of Sarajevo lasted for over three years and caused the deaths of over 5,000 civilians. The victims of the war are remembered at the poignant Museum of Crimes Against Humanity and Genocide 1992-1995.

Bascarsija is the city’s old bazaar and the ideal spot to sample some traditional Bosnian dishes or pick up a souvenir.

For the best views of the city, head to The Yellow Fortress which is particularly popular at sunset.
