With winter weather sweeping the country and another storm brewing ready to wreak havoc, it’s easy to fantasise about a sunny break away from the cold and snow of the season.

Sarson advises tourists to get out and see the city. “Explore the Maboneng Precinct, with its street art and trendy cafes, or visit The Cradle of Humankind, a UNESCO World Heritage site nearby. 

“With its sunny climate and mix of culture, history, and adventure, Johannesburg is a rewarding alternative to the usual winter sun hotspots.”

Johannesburg is famous for its food, too. South African meals often have meat as a staple ingredient and one of it’s most famous foods is biltong, which is preserved meat marinated in spices to give it an exceptional South African flavour.

Before the invention of refrigerators, South Africans used to preserve dried meat, which is where biltong originated from and it is now part of South Africa’s culture.
