“England need Jaiswal,Rohit, Kuldeep, Ashwin to beat India in India”: Ravi Shastri
When England landed in India, they knew it was the biggest Test of their Bazball approach, and when the visitors won the first Test in Hyderabad, the English media, fans, and former cricketers started calling them favourites.
The Ben Stokes-led team was backed to repeat the performance of the 2012 England Test team. That team was the last opponent side to win the series over here.
Despite the disappointment of losing three consecutive games, England’s performance in the Test series against India showcased their resilience. The visitors, led by Ben Stokes, won the toss and opted to bat in the fifth and final Test, with England racing to above 100 after losing Ben Duckkett.
Ollie Pope’s attempt at a big hit led to his stumping, and England couldn’t recover from this setback, being bowled out for 218 runs. Kuldeep Yadav and Ravichandran Ashwin took 5 and 4 wickets, respectively, further adding to England’s woes.
Former India player Ravi Shastri didn’t hold back his criticism of England. “To beat India in India, they need the entire Indian bowling attack, Rohit Sharma, Yashasvi Jaiswal,” he said, underlining England’s immense challenge on Indian soil.
“You mean to say that England will have to outscore players,” Sanjay Manjrekar said in response to Shastri’s comment.
“Yes, and it’s not a new challenge for them. They defeated India over here in 2012, a victory that still resonates, but since then they haven’t been able to replicate that success, let alone win,” he added.
