England cricketer Danielle Wyatt disappointed with Virat Kohli’s gift
England Women’s cricketer Danielle Wyatt recently revealed that the bat gifted to her by the former Indian captain Virat Kohli was not up to the mark and she only used it twice. Kohli had presented the bat to Wyatt during India’s tour of England in 2014, months after she had expressed her admiration for him on social media. Wyatt used the bat during the England Women’s tour of India in 2018.
During a recent question-and-answer session with The Quint, Wyatt confirmed that she didn’t use the bat much.
“I didn’t find the bat Kohli gave me to be very good, I only used it two times,” she said.
Wyatt further added that while Kohli is a great player, her idol growing up was English footballer David Beckham.
“David Beckham has always been my idol since I was a kid. Playing against India Women is something I love because I’ve had success against them before,” Wyatt said having scored a T20I century against India Women.”
Wyatt also revealed that she would love to play alongside India vice-captain and Royal Challengers Bangalore skipper Smriti Mandhana for England owing to the excellent camaraderie they shared at Southern Braves in The Hundred. The duo won the tournament last year.
“I enjoy batting with Smriti Mandhana in The Hundred. Our partnership works smoothly because she has her strengths and weaknesses, just like me. We complement each other effectively,” she said.
Wyatt will play for UP Warriorz in the upcoming second edition of the Women’s Premier League (WPL). The 32-year-old was roped in by the UP-based franchise for INR 30 lakh at the auction after getting unsold last year.
As of February 22, 2024, Wyatt has scored a total of 2602 runs in 130 innings, including two centuries and 13 half-centuries. Wyatt is also a handy off-spinner, with 46 wickets in 45 innings at an economy rate of 5.65. Her highest score in T20Is is 124 which she scored against India Women on March 25, 2018.
