EasyJet and Ryanair passengers charged £100 over ‘two-hour’ flight mistake | Travel News | Travel

Passengers flying with EasyJet or Ryanair this summer have been issued a warning over a “two-hour” flight mistake which could land you a £100 fee.

Whether you’re flying from a major airport like Heathrow or Gatwick or a major regional hub like Manchester Airport or Leeds Bradford, the same rule will apply to people rushing to try to catch their flights on time.

The budget airlines both offer a £100 service to customers who miss their flights by no more than two hours.

Unlike Jet2, TUI and Flybe, none of which offer flight rebooking for missed flights, Easyjet and Ryanair both allow passengers to get onboard the next available flight for a £100 fee.

EasyJet says: “If you miss your flight but arrive at the airport no later than two hours after its scheduled departure time, you can transfer to the next available flight by paying the “Rescue fee”.

The Rescue Fee is set at £110, EasyJet said.

Ryanair has a similar fee. Ryanair charges £100 for its ‘missed departure fee’. It says: “Only available at less than 40 mins before and up to 1 hour after flight departure time. Also available to customers who arrive at the ticket desk up to an hour after their flight departure to move to the next available flight. The fee is charged per passenger per sector.”

Unfortunately, Jet2 does not offer the same service, offering no way to rebook another flight.

However, you can apply for a refund of your Air Passenger Duty, since you never flew. It says: “Jet2.com is a non-refundable airline, so you need to make sure you are at the airport in good time.

“If you miss your flight, you can apply in writing to us for a refund of Air Passenger Duty (APD) if a fare has not been used.”

FlyBe not only refuses to allow a rebooking, but it will also cancel all connecting and return flights as well, so you must notify the firm if you’ve missed a flight to ensure you can still use your other tickets.
