Aakash Chopra has reacted to reports that head coach Gautam Gambhir lost his cool on the players for their performances in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. Gambhir told the cricketers that he had had enough and that the non-performers would be dropped if they didn’t follow his instructions. The conversation between a coach and the players was leaked. Aakash was surprised by the outcome and pointed fingers at the senior players.
Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Ravindra Jadeja, and Jasprit Bumrah are the four most senior players in the Test squad at the moment, with three struggling to perform in Australia.
“The dressing room is a sacred place, and it is likely family, and the conversations over there are never revealed to the outsiders. The day the leaks start happening, let me tell you, the players get divided into groups. The insecurity comes in, and no one wants to discuss anything as it could be leaked. It is always the senior players who leak the information, as juniors are scared and are too consumed with their thoughts. They don’t want to be a part of the leaks,” Aakash Chopra said.
“If the reports are true, it is not good. The reports also mention that a senior player is ready to become an interim captain of the team and help in the transition period. What is happening in Team India? The start of the New Year has started, and all is not well after the defeat in the fourth Test. All is not lost if the team wins the fifth Test; they can retain the BGT and even qualify for the WTC final. I know it is not in the hands of the team, but there is still a chance,” he added.
