Delhi Capitals have announced a new captain for Indian Premier League 2024. Rishabh Pant, who was out of the team for a year due to his fatal car accident, has returned as skipper, replacing David Warner. The wicket-keeper is returning to competitive cricket after 14 months and is working hard in the pre-season-season camp in Vizag.
Pant has not played cricket since December 2022. He had to go through a lengthy rehabilitation process to recover from multiple injuries.
Pant was declared fit by the Board of Control for Cricket ahead of the Indian Premier League. Delhi Capitals move is a big news for the fans, who have been waiting for Rishabh’s return.
The young batter kept informing the fans about his recovery process. He was stationed at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru.
DC chairman and co-owner Parth Jindal said Pant showed grit during his recovery.
“We are delighted to welcome Rishabh Pant as our captain. His grit and fearlessness have always worked wonders for the franchise. I can’t wait to see him playing for Delhi Capitals,” Jindal said.
In IPL 2023, the Delhi capitals were led by David Warner. DC won just 5 out of their 14 matches. This season, the franchise added Tristan Stubbs, Kumar Kushagra, Jhye Richardson, and Jake Fraser-McGurk.
DC will play their first match against Punjab Kings on March 23.
