Daniel Vettori hails SRH’s most complete bowling display of the season vs DC
Daniel Vettori, head coach of Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), commended his team’s bowling performance, even though they have officially been eliminated from the IPL 2025 playoff race. The match between SRH and Delhi Capitals (DC) on May 5, held at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, was called off due to incessant rain after the first innings, thus ending SRH’s faint hopes of qualification.
With slim prospects of reaching the top four, SRH required a win to remain in the race. However, their bowlers put in a stellar performance, reducing DC to just 133 for 7. Unfortunately, rain continued to fall after the interval, rendering the outfield too wet for play, and the match was abandoned. Consequently, both teams were granted one point each. With just seven points from 11 matches, SRH can now accumulate a maximum of 13 points.
“It was a really good performance, probably our best bowling and fielding performance of the tournament so far. We’ve spent a lot of time discussing it in our training sessions and team meetings. So, to come out and get such a strong start, it was a really impressive performance,” Vettori said.
“Of course, it’s disappointing. We entered this season with high expectations, But we just haven’t been consistent enough with our performances or put together complete efforts. Today was the beginning of a complete display, so it’s frustrating not to see it through, but that’s the nature of cricket,” he reflected.
Vettori shared his appreciation for the efforts of the bowlers and fielders, acknowledging that there were high expectations from the team this season, especially following their strong start and their position as finalists in the previous season.
