PBKS stand-in captain Sam Curran was astounded by the big-hitting prowess of batters in IPL 2024, noting that cricket has become like baseball, where home runs are common. Curran’s remarks followed a record-shattering IPL match between PBKS and KKR in Kolkata, in which 532 runs and 42 sixes were smashed – the most sixes ever in a T20 game. Riding this hitting barrage, PBKS incredibly chased down 262, the highest successful run chase in T20 cricket history.
Breaking a 4-match losing streak, PBKS chased down 262 in just 18.3 overs in the stunning style. Jonny Bairstow, struggling for form earlier in the season, exploded with 108 runs off 48 balls for his second IPL century.
Prabhsimran Singh, brought in as an Impact Player, ignited the chase by smashing 5 sixes and 4 boundaries in a ruthless 20-ball 54 assault on KKR’s new-ball bowlers. Shashank Singh, deemed the ‘find of the season’, powered 68 runs from just 28 balls as PBKS achieved the mighty target effortlessly.
“We are very happy with this victory. Most importantly, we got the win after a few tough weeks for our team. Cricket has turned into baseball in some ways. Regardless of the score, we feel we deserved this win today. Happy we got those 2 points.” sated Curran
Curran was delighted for Jonny Bairstow, who struggled for form in the first half of the IPL 2024 season with just 96 runs in his first 6 matches. Curran, the stand-in captain, also praised Shashank for his consistent batting performances for PBKS.
“I am really happy for Jonny as he has been struggling and was determined to go big. Also, Shashank has been a great find for us this season and batted amazing after we promoted him to number four.” added Curran.
